The first underground room proved that Didga could climb below the forest. Root Hollow develops that entrance into a five-floor dungeon and gives the descent a purpose: finding the first jewel needed for the journey toward Hugo.
Build around a space you can see into.
A central atrium, the Resonant Well, opens through four floors, letting the upper route overlook the depths below. Three alternating bridge levels cross the opening between railed galleries. Hanging chains, carved arches and the distant sanctuary give the shaft a readable depth. The descent moves through one connected place.
Give every descent a reason.
Five underground floors establish the first dungeon route. The forest ladder remains its connection to the surface, with four more continuous ladders connecting the floors below. They climb through actual shafts rather than moving Didga between disconnected level screens.
- B1 · Rootward Vestibule. The original entrance opens into carved passages. The Amber Root Sigil introduces the mechanisms and releases the first descent gate.
- B2 · Lantern Galleries. Three echo stones answer in a deliberate order: west, east, then center. A wrong note resets the echo.
- B3 · Moonwater Cloister. Two seals wait on opposite galleries, beside shallow painted-water alcoves. Both must answer before the next descent opens.
- B4 · Emberworks. Brass mechanisms, warm firelight and a western sigil send the player across the ruins toward the final shaft.
- B5 · Heartroot Sanctuary. A gilded dais holds the Verdant Jewel. It can be claimed after all four floor seals are awake.
The goal is the first of five story jewels, an early step in the longer plan for Hugo’s guarded fortress and the princess he holds there. The kingdom’s royal castle beside Hearthvale remains a separate place. Later fortress gates, later jewels, new dungeon enemies and boss encounters remain future development; this update concentrates on making the first underground journey playable.
Make room to find your way back.
Sigils respond to a deliberate interaction or a fresh power-glove strike. Floor landings become recovery checkpoints. Dungeon progress saves in the browser when local storage is available. If Didga drops into the well before solving a floor, the jewel stays locked, but the route back remains usable: counterweights release descent gates when a ladder is climbed from below. Opening a return latch does not award that floor’s seal.
Keep the underground atmosphere.
Dark stone, painted material textures, glowing crystals and warm torchlight distinguish the dungeon from the daylight above. The existing illustrated artwork stays intact. Carved doorways, moulded columns, balcony brackets and stone outcrops give the architecture detail beyond plain block shapes.
Animated illustrated flames accompany real local lights. Nearby emitters cast their brightest halos and individual rising embers, while the surrounding stone keeps enough darkness to read as underground. A camera cutaway hides obstructing upper floors and front walls while leaving the lower galleries visible; it changes the view without removing their physical floors.
The open well also needs a longer view through its haze. Across B2–B5, the fog range leaves the lower galleries and sanctuary visible from above, so the space reads as a four-floor descent. That depth adjustment leaves the original entrance room and other interiors on their established fog settings.
Begin closer to Didga.
New sessions start with the existing closer camera preset, with Wide view available when you want a broader view. Entering the dungeon or royal hills keeps the selected preset, and wheel zoom remains available underground.
What the review establishes.
Automated checks: 689 game checks and 43 selected website, package and journal checks passed; all 109 approved native images retain their exact bytes.
Native browser dungeon review: assembled keyboard/UI routes covered five floors, four seals, the jewel achievement and all five return ladders, with zero respawns at the final surface arrival; reload retained the seals and jewel; closer starts, the Wide view toggle, dungeon entry and underground wheel zoom were checked.
The quest and deep returns preceded the fog correction; the well capture preceded the camera refinement. Interrupted attempts and manual adjustments remain recorded as assembled checks, not an uninterrupted playthrough. Final camera review used an isolated keyboard-only browser context, with no fresh physical-controller gameplay claim. The cover is an actual 0.32.0 gameplay capture.
